PRESS RELEASE JUNE 23, 2020
Marking its 30th year, Société Mont-Soleil takes stock of its work to develop solar energy and the technological advancements achieved over the years. Société Mont-Soleil knows that it owes its successful, wide-ranging innovations to the positive response and support it met within the Bernese Jura region. It has worked on numerous projects well known throughout the country, acting both independently and as a supporting partner. The global boom in solar energy has led to a progressive shift in the company’s work. It is now investigating how photovoltaics can be further developed and used sustainably, with a focus on long-term research, integration into the power grid and battery technologies.
PhD Summer School Mont-Soleil 2020 has to be canceled
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 regulations still in place make the planned practical field work in groups impossible. Despite the lively interest of doctoral students from Switzerland and abroad, the PhD Summer School Mont-Soleil, which focuses on practical field work, must therefore be canceled this year. The organizers ‒ EPFL Lausanne, BFH Biel and Société Mont-Soleil ‒ have decided to hold the doctoral school much sought-after next year from Monday 9th to Saturday 14th August 2021.
PREANNOUNCEMENT: SUMMER SCHOOL MONT-SOLEIL 2021
9TH - 14TH AUGUST 2021 ON MONT-SOLEIL
FIELD-BASED INSIGHTS INTO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES
PRELIMINARY PROGRAM AND APPLICATION

This joint offer by the observatory, the solar- and wind power plant gives visitors the chance to study the sun from the perspective of astronomy as well as of renewable energies. Visitors will visit the observatory for a presentation of various aspects of the sun. Each visitor will be able to observe this star in a completely safe manner through instruments specially designed for observing the sun. Visitors can then choose to end their tour in a wind turbine or in the middle of an array of photovoltaic panels as the sun plays a vital role in all renewable energies.

The worldwide market for photovoltaics (PV) is now around 3,000 times larger than it was in 1990, and in that period it has also become truly global. How has Société Mont-Soleil, established in 1990, managed to navigate these market transformations up to the present day?
MEDIA INFORMATION AUGUST 12, 2019
Today, Monday 12 August, the second international summer course will begin for 23 energy doctoral students from 13 European and Asian countries at the University of Berne. The "PhD Summer School Mont-Soleil" is organised by the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne), the BFH (Berne University of Applied Sciences) and the Mont-Soleil Saint-Imier Society in collaboration with the University of Berne. The aim is to present to the selected, highly qualified young energy experts new energy, storage and control topics and especially the experience gained in many years of practical field work on Mont-Soleil and in Biel and to analyse them in comparison with theoretical findings.
12TH - 16TH/17TH AUGUST 2019 ON MONT-SOLEIL
Field-Based Insights into the Implementation of Renewable Energies
Switzerland has a long tradition in renewable energies. On Mont-Soleil (located above the city of Saint-Imier in the Western part of Switzerland) the production, distribution and application of renewable energies can be shown in a directly perceptible way since all adequate facilities are concentrated on and around Mont-Soleil in a unique manner. Workshops will take place in the visitor center on Mont-Soleil together with lectures given by top experts from internationally renowned universities (as e.g. École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL or Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH) as well as from global industries in the field of renewable energies.
MEDIA INFORMATION JUNE 12, 2019
Société Mont-Soleil intends to further develop the unique potential of its laboratory and experimental site above Saint-Imier (Canton of Bern), which has been operating successfully for nearly 30 years. For this purpose, it is launching a project of the future that aims to promote this site in contact with universities and industry. It relies on the one hand on the long-standing cooperation with developers, manufacturers and users from all over the world. On the other hand, it is based on the highly successful doctoral school, which was conducted last year for the first time with the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) at the Mont-Soleil laboratory and experimental site.
